I Feel The Earth Move Under My Feet

...luckily, no "skies tumbling down."

Last Night, there was an earthquake in northern Japan. It was 280 miles northeast of Tokyo, but I felt it alright. At first it felt like one of those 'vibra-beds' that you used to see in motels and would give you fifteen minutes of massaging action for a quarter. But the quake got progressively stronger and the (two) dishes in my cabinet started rattling around also. It subsided soon enough and thank goodness there was no loss of life. Thank goodness that nothing crawled up from that earthquake either, iykwimaityd. OK... on to completing my Kyoto series...

That was exactly how it felt when I was in an earthquake in Tokyo... like someone was shaking the bed.

Pete, since you were sleeping you may not know the answer to this question but when you went outside and stood still could you still feel the after shocks? I had always though after shocks came in discrete intervals like 15 or 30 minutes but in the quake I was in Seattle Washington after we evacuated the building you could feel continues waves in the ground even though nothing was visually shaking anymore. It is a real weird feeling. Glad to hear you are ok - the news said it was a pretty major quake.
